Lifting weights is for men ..... Yeah Righto
Its one of those huge common misconceptions and myths out there that lifting heavy weights is for men and that if women lift we will somehow become hench and bulky !!
Lifting weights and lifting heavy weights is actually beneficial to us ladies .. Lets take a look at some of the reasons
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 - It goes without saying that doing some strength training will make you stronger . But being stronger really does have a positive impact on daily living. Daily tasks will become easier, laundry or carrying bags of shopping or little ones , shifting furniture, our lives become easier when we are physically stronger.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘁 - Yes that means dropping clothes sizes NOT suddenly
becoming hench like people will tell you. The key to fat loss is burning more calories day to day not just in your workout. As fat is burned within muscle.. the more muscle you have the more efficient at fat burning your body becomes. More muscle = a higher basal metabolic rate :)
𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝗴 - Lifting weights is far more effective than endless hours slogging it out on a treadmill. There are so many different ways to weight train making it challenging, engaging and unlike the long slog of cardio it has no impact so is safe to do for most people !!
𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀- Ladies who lift weight significantly reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Weight training improves your bone density . It also balances out our pesky hormone levels, reduces the risk of heart disease, arthritis and diabetes. And contrary to belief lifting weights wont injure you .. it actually does the reverse and reduces the rink of injury from other activities.
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 - There's something hugely empowering and satisfying about lifting weights. Ever lifted something and thought hell yeah go me !! Weight training is that .. The empowerment and confidence you get from the challenge is the biggest antidepressant going!!
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Lifting weight is consistently challenging, I mean we hit a certain weight lift and we push for the PB .. we push for more. We lift one kettle bell , we push for a heavier one. Its always evolving, always challenging and can always progress.
𝗜𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 - That lean toned lifted butt didn't come from 1 hr on the treadmill everyday .. those toned arms didn't come from the cross-trainer or spin bike !! Weight training improves muscle tone and definition.
